Skinny Champagne Brand Creator Amanda Thomson on the power of women’s professional networks and becoming a supplier to Selfridges

Selfridges

Amanda Thomson is CEO and creator of the Skinny Champagne brand. Formerly a BBC broadcaster, Amanda moved to Paris in 2010 to fulfil a life-long ambition to study wine and Champagne. Her diploma at Le Cordon Bleu was taught in French under renowned wine teacher, Franck Ramage. Legendary wine expert Gerard Basset OBE is her mentor. Amanda has single-handedly launched a No Sugar, Grand Cru “Skinny Champagne” and more recently “Skinny Champagne Rosé” with the backing of its acclaimed French maker, Alexandre Penet, including a new collaborative label – a world first.

Skinny Champagne: New in at Selfridges

Skinny Champagne afternoon teaSkinny Champagne is now stocked by Selfridges London in The Corner Restaurant & Bar, 2nd Floor Fashion Department by the bottle, glass and with Skinny Champagne Afternoon Tea; The menu was especially created to complement Skinny Champagne by Selfridges talented Executive Chef, Mark Taylor.

 A unique new product

Skinny Champagne is 100% Grand Cru (top quality) Champagne without added sugar. Most Champagne has sugar added when the yeast is expelled and while there’s nothing wrong with that, I have launched a beautifully balanced, complex Champagne that happens to not need sugar so what’s not to like?

Selfridges supporting entrepreneurs

Selfridges is regularly voted the world’s top department store and with very good reason. As well as stocking all the top luxury brands, they are at the forefront of spotting, developing, and importantly supporting new trends and working with entrepreneurs to help grow their brand.

Women’s professional networks helping to build success

Getting out and connecting with existing clients as well as always chatting with potential new clients has always been at the forefront of what I am doing with Skinny Champagne, whether through word of mouth or social media, via pop ups and tastings and, when invited, speaking with the fashion and media world who have been early supporters of my brand.

World renowned fashion designer Anya Hindmarch was an early fan after she tasted my Skinny Champagne with Vogue contributing editor Christa D’Souza. These platforms provide brilliant opportunities for me.

Why it’s important to follow your ambitions and keep believing in yourself even when times are hard as a female enterpreneur

Perhaps faking it until you believe it yourself is the key! In the meantime, as long as you fake the confidence successfully, you can silence the cynics who will always be there.

What’s next?

I have been developing a whole range of bottles to fit at different price points within my Skinny Fizz brand.
