“Women’s adaptability and leadership are crucial in driving change, especially in crisis-affected regions like Ukraine.”

Educational background and career journey

I studied electrochemistry at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where I conducted research on the potential of polythiophene films to convert solar radiation into electrical energy. Over the years, I transitioned into project and communications management within social impact initiatives, focusing on implementing solar energy solutions.

As head of the Project Department at RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation, I oversee multiple key areas, including engagement with partners and donors, project coordination, communications, and the development of retraining programmes for veterans and internally displaced persons. My work is driven by a commitment to sustainability and the belief that renewable energy can transform Ukraine’s future.

About RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation

RePower Ukraine was founded in 2022 by renewable energy professionals in response to the widespread destruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Our mission is to provide emergency energy support to municipalities and critical facilities such as hospitals and water treatment plants, ensuring their resilience against ongoing power outages.

Our core activities include:

  • Supporting municipal infrastructure with solar power plants and energy storage systems
  • Providing emergency energy equipment for hospitals
  • Implementing educational initiatives for youth and vulnerable communities
  • Conducting research to help municipalities transition to renewable energy

I initially joined RePower Ukraine as a volunteer communications manager in 2023, driven by my strong belief in the power of renewable energy to build resilience in crisis situations. In mid-2024, I stepped into my current role, where I lead projects that drive sustainable recovery and energy independence.

Overcoming challenges in energy security

RePower UkraineOne of our biggest challenges is the ongoing shelling of energy infrastructure, making our mission more urgent than ever. Frequent power outages threaten hospitals and essential services, and workforce shortages — exacerbated by the war — create additional obstacles to project implementation.

To address these issues, we are installing solar power plants with energy storage, ensuring continuous energy supply to critical facilities. Our retraining programmes for veterans and internally displaced persons also help rebuild the workforce while fostering economic recovery.

Women play a vital role in this transformation. At RePower Ukraine, women make up 60% of our team, and we actively encourage their participation in the renewable energy sector. Through gender-inclusive initiatives, we are breaking barriers and building a motivated, sustainable workforce.

Partnering with industry leaders to scale impact

Solar Energy UK is one of the companies RePower Ukraine Charitable Foundation collaborates with.

Our partnerships have been key to expanding our reach. With the support of our UK ambassador, Nick Arnold, and our Scotland ambassador, Camille Dressler, we have built strong connections with Solar Energy UK and industry leaders such as Photon Energy, Midsummer, Segen, Waxman and ESS Group.

These collaborations have led to significant achievements, including fundraising for a 36.5kW solar PV [photovoltaic]/battery system for Slobozhanske Hospital in Kharkiv Region. Additionally, companies like Next Energy Capital and Gore Street Energy Storage Fund have provided crucial financial support to expand our projects.

Women leading the charge in sustainable energy

Women in Ukraine have taken on many new responsibilities since the war began, often stepping into roles traditionally held by men. This shift has created new opportunities for women in industries like renewable energy. With adaptability, resilience, and strategic thinking, women are driving progress and transforming the sector.

I strongly believe that this is a moment of opportunity. By supporting more women in leadership and technical roles, we can accelerate the transition to sustainable energy solutions and foster long-term resilience in Ukraine.

Advice for those looking to make an impact

For those wanting to support humanitarian causes, the key is to identify where your skills can add the most value. Whether in project management, fundraising, engineering, or advocacy, there is a place for everyone in this work. Collaboration is essential — working with existing organisations maximises impact.

Persistence is also crucial. Challenges will always arise, but the long-term benefits of humanitarian efforts make every step worthwhile.

How the Womanthology community can help

We welcome support from individuals and companies who want to help fund solar projects, share expertise, or partner with us to implement new initiatives. Anyone interested can connect with us via our website or LinkedIn, and we are always open to discussions on expanding our impact.

Members of the Womanthology community can also donate via our GoFundMe campaign too. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re able to help.

Looking ahead

Our work is expanding. We are equipping more hospitals and municipalities with solar energy solutions and scaling our educational programmes to train more job seekers in solar technology. We are also strengthening partnerships with international donors and industry leaders to bring more sustainable energy solutions to Ukraine.

One of our key strategic focuses is helping Ukrainian communities leverage their resources to transition towards renewable energy, ensuring a secure and independent energy future.
